August 2026: 1,720 roofing permits in our dataset
Los Angeles County had 1,720 roofing permits recorded in August 2026 in Poach.rr's dataset, which is collected from public permit portals such as data.lacity.org. That is up from 1,500 in July 2026, a gain of 14.7%. It is also up from 1,485 in August 2025, a gain of 15.8%. These are recorded permits in our dataset, not every permit issued in the county, and coverage depends on which jurisdictions publish their filings.
Some portals publish filings late, so the most recent month can be revised upward as records arrive. August rose rather than fell, but the same caution applies to the July figure and to any single-month comparison.
The trailing 12 months
From September 2025 through August 2026, our dataset holds 19,756 roofing permits. The prior 12 months hold 19,452, so the year-over-year change is 1.6%. The monthly average over the latest 12 months is 1,646. August's 1,720 sits above that average, and July's 1,500 sits below it.
| Month | Roofing permits |
|---|---|
| September 2025 | 1,620 |
| October 2025 | 1,854 |
| November 2025 | 1,358 |
| December 2025 | 1,518 |
| January 2026 | 1,824 |
| February 2026 | 1,509 |
| March 2026 | 1,826 |
| April 2026 | 1,720 |
| May 2026 | 1,583 |
| June 2026 | 1,724 |
| July 2026 | 1,500 |
| August 2026 | 1,720 |
Peak and slow months
The peak of the 12-month window was October 2025, with 1,854 permits. The slowest month was November 2025, with 1,358. Those two months are back to back, so the swing from one to the next was sharp. March 2026 came close to the peak at 1,826, and January 2026 followed at 1,824.
The pattern since then is choppy rather than steady. April 2026 had 1,720, May dropped to 1,583, June recovered to 1,724, July slipped to 1,500, and August returned to 1,720. Over the past five months the count has moved up and down within a fairly narrow band, with no clear direction.
Where permits concentrate
Permits in our dataset come from 84 cities. The top five over the trailing 12 months are:
- Los Angeles: 14,979 permits, 75.8% of the county total in our dataset
- Los Angeles County (the unincorporated label in the records): 2,140 permits, 10.8%
- Pomona: 420 permits, 2.1%
- Altadena: 369 permits, 1.9%
- Whittier: 336 permits, 1.7%
The city of Los Angeles dominates, and part of that reflects which portals publish usable records. Treat the share as a picture of our dataset, not a precise map of where all roofing work happens. Outside the top two, the counts drop fast. Pomona, Altadena and Whittier each hold a small slice, so a roofer working those areas is dealing with thinner volume per city.
Replacement vs. repair, and job values
Replacement work makes up 85.2% of roofing permits in the trailing 12 months. Repairs make up just 0.7%. The rest fall into other permit types that we do not break out here. For anyone choosing a message, the data points to full replacement as the main job type pulled from permit records.
Of the 19,756 permits, 16,684 list a job value. Among those, the median reported job value is $6,400. That is a figure from permit filings, so it reflects what applicants declared and not necessarily what homeowners finally paid.
Roof age context
Our dataset tracks 335,082 homes in the county. Of those, 93,718 have roofs under five years old and 80,305 are between five and 10 years. Another 47,895 fall between 10 and 15 years, and 31,742 between 15 and 20. The group over 20 years holds 81,422 homes. Homes with roofs over 15 years old make up 33.8% of the tracked homes. That older group is the natural pool for replacement-focused outreach, though age alone says nothing about condition.
A quick look at solar
Solar permits in our dataset came to 1,175 in August 2026, compared with 1,622 in August 2025, a change of -27.6%. The trailing 12-month total is 18,463. If you sell both roofing and solar, the two lines are moving differently right now: roofing is up year over year for the month, and solar is down.
What this means for next month
- Plan around a steady base, not a spike. The monthly average of 1,646 and the recent range of 1,500 to 1,724 suggest a stable flow of fresh permits. Budget for that, not for a surge.
- Do not over-read July or August. July was the soft month, and August bounced back. Because the latest month can be incomplete, wait for a second month of data before changing spend sharply.
- Weight your canvassing toward Los Angeles and the unincorporated areas. Together they hold the bulk of recorded permits. Pomona, Altadena and Whittier are worth a look if you already work those areas, but expect smaller numbers.
- Lead with replacement. With 85.2% of permits in that category, replacement is the main job in the records.
- Use permit age to prioritize. Newer permits point to homeowners who have just started a project. Older filings may suit follow-up on neighbors with similar roofs. On Poach.rr you can pick a county and filter by permit age, then buy a prospect exclusively or shared.
New Poach.rr accounts get free prospects to try the marketplace, no card required. Homeowner contact details are looked up after purchase, and numbers flagged on do-not-call lists are marked.
Method note
All counts are permits in our dataset for Los Angeles County, swept daily from public portals. Jurisdictions that do not publish permits are not represented, so these numbers describe the dataset and not the whole county.

Methodology
Counts are residential roofing and solar building permits in Poach.rr's dataset for Los Angeles County, CA, collected from public permit portals (data.lacity.org). Coverage depends on which jurisdictions publish permits, so read the numbers as a consistent sample, not a census of every permit filed. Months where a source feed was incomplete are excluded from comparisons, and the latest month can rise as portals publish late filings. Data runs through August 2026; page generated October 7, 2026.
