August 2026 at a glance
Our dataset recorded 765 roofing permits in Pinellas County, FL for August 2026. That is down from 1,017 in July, a drop of 24.8%. It is also below the 1,088 recorded in August 2025, a year-over-year decline of 29.7%.
A caveat before reading too much into the month: the latest month can be incomplete, because some permit portals publish filings late. All counts here are permits in Poach.rr's dataset, collected from public permit portals (the source host for this market is api.permit-stack.com). They are not a complete count of every permit in the county. One month's dip should not be called a trend.
The trailing 12 months
Recorded roofing permits for the trailing 12 months total 9,821. The prior 12 months total 16,816, so the trailing-year figure is down 41.6%. The monthly average over the trailing 12 months is 818. August's 765 sits below that average, and July's 1,017 sits above it.
The monthly series shows how the year moved:
| Month | Roofing permits | Solar permits |

| December 2025 | 629 | 264 |
| January 2026 | 738 | 215 |
| February 2026 | 794 | 227 |
| March 2026 | 848 | 209 |
| April 2026 | 789 | 122 |
| May 2026 | 793 | 144 |
| June 2026 | 887 | 177 |
| July 2026 | 1,017 | 158 |
| August 2026 | 765 | 105 |
Peak and slow months
Within the trailing 12 months, the peak was September 2025 at 1,042 permits. The slowest month was December 2025 at 629. After that low, the monthly counts climbed through the first half of 2026, from 738 in January to 887 in June and 1,017 in July. April and May were nearly level at 789 and 793.
July 2026 came close to the September 2025 peak. August then fell back to 765. Whether that is a real cooling or a late-publishing effect will be clearer once the month fills in and September's numbers arrive.
Where permits concentrate
Permits in our dataset span 27 cities in Pinellas County. The top five over the trailing 12 months are:
- St Petersburg: 3,983 permits, 40.6% of the county total in our dataset
- Largo: 1,016 permits, 10.3%
- Pinellas Park: 895 permits, 9.1%
- Dunedin: 695 permits, 7.1%
- Seminole: 647 permits, 6.6%
St Petersburg stands apart. Its share is roughly four times Largo's by the percentages above, and no other city comes close. Largo, Pinellas Park, Dunedin and Seminole form a second tier with shares between 6.6% and 10.3%.
Job values
Among permits that report a job value, 7,738 in total, the median reported value is $12,253. That is a figure from the permit filings themselves, and it comes from only the permits that list a value. It is a useful reference for the typical size of a permitted roofing job in the county. It is not a quote benchmark for any single property.
A side note on solar
Solar permits in our dataset moved differently from roofing. The trailing 12 months show 2,499 solar permits against 1,680 in the prior 12 months, up 48.8%. The latest month is a different picture: 105 in August 2026 against 193 in August 2025, down 45.6%. Again, the latest month may be incomplete. September 2025 was the strongest solar month in the window shown, at 335.
What this means for next month
These are planning notes drawn from the permit counts, not forecasts.
- Do not read August as a collapse. The 765 figure may rise as late filings come in. The more reliable signal is that the trailing-year total is well below the prior year's, so the market is running at a lower recorded volume than a year ago.
- Weight canvassing toward St Petersburg. With 3,983 permits and 40.6% of the total, it offers the densest recorded activity. A route built there needs the least drive time between doors where roofing work has been permitted.
- Treat the second tier as a rotation. Largo, Pinellas Park, Dunedin and Seminole each hold a meaningful but smaller share. If you split ad spend by geography, these four are the logical next layer after St Petersburg.
- Use last September as a benchmark, not a promise. September 2025 was the trailing-year peak at 1,042. If September 2026 lands near that level, it would suggest the July rebound has held. If it lands near August, the softer pattern is probably real. Hold some budget back until you can see which.
- Watch the permit-age angle. Neighborhoods with older recorded roofing permits are natural prospects for outreach. Poach.rr lets contractors pick a state and county and filter by permit age. New accounts get free prospects to try the marketplace, with no card required.
Coverage note
Poach.rr sweeps public permit portals daily, and coverage depends on which jurisdictions publish permits. Counts in this report reflect what appears in our dataset. They do not capture work that was never permitted or permits that a portal has not yet posted. Compare month to month with that in mind, and expect the August count to be revised as filings arrive.

Methodology
Counts are residential roofing and solar building permits in Poach.rr's dataset for Pinellas County, FL, collected from public permit portals (api.permit-stack.com). Coverage depends on which jurisdictions publish permits, so read the numbers as a consistent sample, not a census of every permit filed. Months where a source feed was incomplete are excluded from comparisons, and the latest month can rise as portals publish late filings. Data runs through August 2026; page generated October 8, 2026.
